THE INDIAN FLAG:

The saffron stands for courage, sacrifice and the spirit of renunciation.

The white, is meant for peace, unity, purity and truth.

The green is for faith and fertility.

The navy blue wheel (Ashoka Chakra) a 24-spoked wheel in the middle of the white stripe represents the wheel of the law - symbolizes the sky and the ocean. It denotes the continuity of the nation's progress which is deemed to be as boundless as the blue sky and as fathomless as the deep blue sea.

15th August, 1947 - India got Independence.

26th January, 1950 - India became a Republic.

The total population of India as on 1st March 2001 - 1,027,015,247 (Estimated in 2004 - 1.06 billion)
